Celebrity divorces are not like ours, and in the case of Dr. Dre and his ex-wife Nicole, this has never been truer. Dr. Dre has been ordered to pay Nicole Young a substantial divorce payment.
According to the reported details of the settlement, the judge in the case order Dr. Dre to pay Ms. Young $298,306 per month in alimony. The annual payment totals nearly $3.5 million per year. While most people would view this as an excessive amount of money, Ms. Young was said to have requested even more than she received. When she initially filed for divorce in 2020, Ms. Young asked for $2 million per month.
Dr. Dre and his wife share two grown children, so they did not have a custody or child support order included in their finalized settlement. He will be required to cover his ex-wife's health insurance and expenses for Malibu and Pacific Palisades homes. The settlement agreement stipulates that the alimony will end if Ms. Young remarries or enters a domestic partnership.
The couple was married for 24 years, and she filed for divorce in June of 2020. The divorce has been contentious since the filing where Ms. Young accusing her ex-husband of emotional and physical abuse. Ms. Young made a statement regarding the abuse she suffered in the marriage.
"André has verbally and emotionally decimated my personhood to the extent that I currently suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome. I have also offered extensive and painful testimony about Andre's relentless campaign of abuse and control over me for more than half of my life…it is misleading, revolting, and insulting for Andre to suggest that I have not been abused because, as a victim of relentless abuse and isolation, I did not create and maintain a contemporaneous record of abuse inflicted on me."
He denied the accusations, but the claims heightened emotions and made the divorce process extremely polarizing and negative. Laura Wasser represented Dr. Dre, and she filed a motion of bifurcation once Ms. Young accused the famous rapper and producer of domestic violence. She said the false allegations were proof the marriage was broken beyond repair. Dr. Dre made a statement denying the claims, and he filed a claim accusing Ms. Young of making a false allegation of domestic violence.
Dr. Dre is slated to pay Ms. Young $3.5 million per year plus stipulated expenses for many years if she decides to remain single. As a wealthy man worth close to $800 million, this is not a loss for Dr. Dre as it could have been much worse. The divorce has not been finalized.
