After 27 years of marriage, the couple announced that they would be divorcing in May 2021. Surprisingly, the couple did not have a pre- or postnuptial agreement in place, but they did have a separation agreement. Both parties had a lot of assets, including their foundation, several million-dollar homes, and stocks.
Their divorce was finalized in August 2021, and neither party will be paying or receiving alimony. The couple also announced that they would continue to jointly run the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
While no other financial information was included in public court records, Bill Gates was worth $152 billion at the time. Forbes also recently reported that Melinda walked away with at least $6.3 billion worth of stock in various companies.
Dr. Dre & Nicole Young
In December 2021, Dr. Dre finalized his divorce from Nicole Young. The couple were married for almost 24 years, and they were separated for 18 months of negotiations and litigation. In the final settlement, Dr. Dre agreed to pay Young $100 million in two installments to satisfy their property division settlement. As Dr. Dre was $820 million at the time, he agreed to give Young nearly a fifth of his wealth and half of his liquid assets.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum & Princess Haya bint al-Hussein
The rule of Dubai reportedly paid his ex-wife $728 million as a part of their divorce settlement. The settlement money is expected to cover the childcare expenses for the couple’s two children as well as Princess Haya’s security expenses. Their divorce was quite lengthy, and during the course of the proceedings, allegations of affairs and threats arose.
Adele & Simon Konecki
Adele and Simon Konecki got married in 2012, and seven years later, the couple filed for divorced because of irreconcilable differences. While the courts did keep their divorce records private, Adele (at the time) was reportedly worth $180 million. It is important to note that the couple also did not sign a prenuptial agreement, which affects the division of assets and more.
Jeff Bezos & Mackenzie Scott
Bezos and Scott filed for divorce after over 25 years of marriage because of cheating allegations. Scott was awarded $38 billion in the settlement, and she became a well-known philanthropist following the divorce. Scott also reportedly gave Bezos her interests in Blue Origin and Washington Post as well as three-fourths of their shared Amazon stocks.
